Before I switched from Windows to Linux, I was suffering from virus attacks a lot. At that time I tried McAfee, Norton, PC-Cilin, F-Secure, Panda, dozons of Misc. Virus Removal tools and Spamware. Last year I've found Kaspersky.
Let's see what users from outside say about these anti-virus software. Good thing about them (foreign user) is, they provide feedback after using a product which helps other users to get some idea what they are going to use.
According to CNET:
McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007: CNET Rating=6.8 User Rating=3.3 (http://reviews.cnet.com/McAfee_VirusScan_Plus_2007/4852-3667_7-31995275.html?tag=sub)
Norton AntiVirus 2007: CNET Rating=7.5 User Rating=2.9 (http://reviews.cnet.com/Norton_AntiVirus_2007/4852-3667_7-32069537.html)
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6: CNET Rating=8.0 User Rating=6.0 (http://reviews.cnet.com/Kaspersky_Anti_Virus_6/4852-3667_7-32004282.html?tag=sub)
AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 Professional Single Edition: CNET Rating=6.0 User Rating=8.8 (http://reviews.cnet.com/AVG_Anti_Virus_7_5_Professional_Single_Edition/4852-3681_7-32153594.html?tag=sub)
Apparently, it tells us AVG is most preferred antivirus tool for end-users.
Let's see what CNET lab says. They say "For the first time in nearly two years, we have an Editors' Choice winner for antivirus protection. Of the products we've tested and reviewed thus far, we think Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 offers the best value and performance. Norton AntiVirus 2007 improved some over last year, but McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007, despite adding a firewall, failed to move up. New this year is Eset NOD32, an excellent application, but one that's best suited for more advanced users. Look for additional reviews for CA Anti-virus 2007 and BitDefender 10 within the next few weeks."
Here is the CNET 2007 antivirus performance test scores (http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6600_7-6655968-1.html). Please note "shorter bars indicate faster performance".
Happy windows. Enjoy Virus. and format c:/ every three months.
