Hello! Many of you may have heard of Gaim. It's a multi-protocol instant-messaging client, for both linux and windows, which supports all the popular (and the unpopular ;-) ) protocols, eg. AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN, Y!M etc.

Because of the similarity of the names 'Gaim' and 'AIM', AOL has complained about the name for a number of years, threatening to sue the developers. Despite several agreements with lawyers on both sides, they continued to bring it up every so often. So this time, we decided to get rid of the problem once and for all. So after negotiating for a legal settlement with AOL for more than a year, we have finally got a signed agreement. Unfortunately, we have had to rename the project to 'Pidgin'. So the client known as 'Gaim' will now be known as 'Pidgin'. The library 'libgaim' will be known as 'libpurple', and the console client 'gaim-text' will be known as 'Finch'.
