Surely it can...good producers are coming and good films are being made...and the level interest of people to see those good movies is also increasing!
Say a film made by Humayun Ahmed back 5 years had far less spectator than for a film he released back one or two years
Same thing goes for other standard film directors
More over we are having modern cinema theaters to add new color to movies and people tend to go there which is also a good sign
So things will improve...it will take time...effort of standard producers and contribution from government about banning all uncensored movies and so on

Good storyline is a must. But one of the main problem with BD film industry is internal politics. Bengals are never known for their unity! :-)

Amar ekta movie ekhono mone ache...like Ekattorer Jishu.....this kind of movie can lead the movie industry....Devil you are right about the internal politics......I think best solution to remove this severe problem is creating a outside source of movie...i mean FDC er baire production house kore okhane valo movie banate hobe and oneke banache.....tokhon bzness odike chole gele FDC er lok jonrao dourar douri korbe to make better movie....
Amar ekta strong Believe ache......Bangladesh have much much better story line than hollywood bollywood.....what hollywood is showing a tragedy of a mouse??????? Ajob.....we have people living on the street on the railway station in the poor vilages....we can show lots of live examples man......Only from independent war we can Make thousands of stories.....and Great stories.....Can't WE?

i also agree with mohakal. One of the main reasons for the low quality of bangla movies is the target group. the main target group for the bangla movies are the nimno moddhobitto and gram/gonjer/mofossholer lokjon.
they have a slightly different taste than us. they want to see some dance, some sursuri and and other rog roge stuff. I am sure they will also appreciate movies like "Matir Moyna", "ekattor er Jishue(mohakal mentioned)", "chitra nodir pare" and a number of good documentry.
One thing for sure that, we would never be able to get rid of the B,C grade movies because of the taste of our target group. But, surely, we can make movies and I am sure We have got talents like S.Roy in our country.
A good story line and an excellent direction can bring a world class movie from bangladesh. It requires imagination and visualization power and the ability to direct people to make them do what you want.

True that. Plus government support is needed here. I heard that good movies in bd do not get censorship (unbelievable indeed) for a loong time while the porno ones are out the next day. And something must be done about the politics. If you have seen two of the recent good movies on '71 with a similar theme one directed by humayan ahmed and the other by toukir. The one by humayan ahmed ain't as good as the other one plus it is a bit unrealistic too. Still it has been sent to Oscar by the film association of bd which does raise questions.

Humayun ahmed makes good longer version natok actualy, those are not movies.....movies shud have more camera use more enriched use of computers (not that much like hollywood we cant expect that) ....Humayun ahmed is a great story maker no doubt....but i think a good director with his script can make a better movie than by himself....
And about raising question? ....Theres always some doubt and questions behind all the public work....oita jodi prithibir shera movie keo oscar deya niye kotha hoi tao kono newspaper or magazine bolbe it wasnt fair.....mediar kaaj shudhu gossip creat kora....and sometimes the truth remains untold cuz of that..

Well glad to see the consciousness u guys have. If half the people in the media industry are as conscious as u, I can tell good movies will be made. I first want to raise some questions ...
What kind of movies are we be making mainly ?
As Japanese made mostly jedaigeki/ Samurai films
As Chinese made mostly actions/mythological films
Hollywood is known for big-budget/ action/ sci-fi/ star oriented films
Bollywood is known for their star oriented/ musical/ romantic films
Iran is famous for children/social conflicts/ human beliefs films
France is famous for rule breaking/artistic films
How/Where to teach filmmaking ?
Those countries which are making good films they have plenty of good film schools.. If u say that "You dont have to go school to learn to make good films" I will Larry Ellison(CEO of Oracle) , William Bill H. Gates(Microsoft) and plenty of Business Giants did not go to business school....
Do our audience is ready for good films ?
Americans, French, Chinese, japanese, Indians love movies.. You ask an american where do you want to be in Saturday evening ?
Most will answer movies....
